The heating and air conditioning system used to be a luxury item that only the wealthy can afford. Now, it is a staple in every modern home. To better understand and appreciate this wonderful innovation, homeowners should take the time to learn about its history.

In 1902, Willis Carrier invented the first air conditioner. A/Cs then were large, expensive and highly dangerous due to the ammonia coolant. A movie theater in Alabama, and government buildings, were among the very first buildings where the machine was installed.

The technology led to significant changes in the architecture of modern buildings, and allowed for advances in space exploration and other modern technology.

Early central heating, on the other hand, dates back to 2500 B.C. However, it was on 1805 when Englishman William Strutt on of the first warm-air furnaces.
