As many homeowners start to turn to fireplaces and space heaters to keep their home warm and comfortable, U.S. Fire Administration warns everybody of the risks that these furnaces and boilers may bring. Below are some precautions that homeowners should take when it comes to heating their homes.
- – Have your furnace, fireplace and chimney checked by a professional at least once a year.
- – Make sure to inspect your filter and replace it at least every three months.
- – Check your furnace exhaust vent to see if it is clear of any debris.
- – Never leave stoves, fire or portable heaters unattended.
