Living with an unusually noisy air conditioner can be pretty unnerving for many homeowners. We appreciate it going through all the trouble to keep our homes cool, but does it really have to be that loud about it? Kidding aside, though, it’s important to know that we don’t have to just bear with it.
Noise coming from the A/C usually means that there’s something not working right with the system. Common problems include debris obstructing the fan blade, bent or dirty coil fins and loose parts.
To fix an obstructed fan blade, you only need to turn the unit off and open it to clean off leaves, small twigs or chunks of ice obstructing the fan. On the other hand, cleaning the fins with a vacuum cleaner, or straightening them with a fin comb, is the answer to coin fin-related troubles. Finally, all you need is a screwdriver to tighten loose parts that may be causing the weird noise coming from you’re A/C.
